Welcome to Heritage UMC!

Are you looking for a church home or a place to worship this weekend? You’re invited to worship with us. We’d love to meet you!

We’ve listed some of the most frequently asked questions and answers below so you can know what to expect when you visit. You can also contact us in the church office, 913-897-6446, M-Th 9am-3pm or email staff@heritageumc.org if you have additional questions.

Where do I park?

Our main parking lot is on the west side of the church. There are handicapped spaces in the main parking lot and also in the smaller lot on the north side of the building. We have a few parking spaces dedicated for our guests. Feel free to park in one of our ‘reserved for guests’ parking spaces or any other parking space you choose.

Where do I go when I get there?

For worship and events, the main doors of the church are located by the circle drive on west side, the parking lot side of the church. On Sundays for worship, you may also enter through the north doors. During the week, come to the office entrance doors and ring the doorbell. The church office is open from 9am to 3pm M-TH.

What do I do when I get there?

When you arrive, please sign in at one of our welcome desks. Worship begins at 9:30am on Sundays. We begin live-streaming and playing music at 9:15am. Pick up a cup of coffee or some lemonade, and a sweet treat in Fellowship Hall on your way into worship. Our worship service generally lasts about an hour. Following worship, you are welcome to join us in Fellowship Hall for conversation and fellowship. Join us early on the last Sunday of the month for Pre-Worship JAM – an all request hymn and song sing-a-long! Pre-JAM starts around 9:10am both in-person and online.

What is available for children?

Children start their morning with their families in the sanctuary. Check out our Kid’s Korner in the back of the sanctuary, a special area just for kids and their families! Kid’s Korner is available throughout worship. During worship, we invite all children to come forward for Children’s Moment which is toward the beginning of the service. After Children’s Moment, our Sunday School teachers will lead children 3yrs through 5th grade out of the sanctuary to their Sunday School classes in rooms 104, 105 & 106. (On the first Sunday of the month there is no children’s Sunday school and we invite children to worship with their families in the sanctuary. Kid’s Korner is available during worship every Sunday.) On Sunday School weeks, you may pick your child up after worship from the Sunday School classrooms (rooms 104, 105 & 106). Email us at children@heritagumc.org if you have questions about Children’s Ministry.

Is childcare available during worship?

Yes! Our nursery is staffed on Sunday mornings during worship and is available for infants and toddlers younger than 3yrs old. The nursery is located in the hall behind the sanctuary in room 115. Parents are asked to sign in when they drop their children off in the nursery.

What do I wear?

There is no official dress-code. You’ll see ties and dresses as well as jeans and t-shirts. All styles are welcome. Come in whatever you feel comfortable worshiping in!

Where should I sit?

You are invited to sit anywhere in the sanctuary that you would like. Occassionally there will be rows reserved for baptism families, new members and special guests.

Where is the Sanctuary located?

When entering through the main doors on the west side by the circle drive, the sanctuary is to your left, down the hall  and then, on your right. If you enter through the north doors, you will enter directly into the sanctuary. Our greeters and ushers are happy to show you to the sanctuary when you arrive.

Is someone going to call on me in worship?

We do not have a hand-shaking time or visitor recognition time during worship.

We do ask that you fill out a CONNECT CARD with your name and contact information so we can say hello. We would love to get to know you and let you know about what’s happening at Heritage.

Can I partake in communion?

Yes. As part of the United Methodist Church, we practice open communion. Everyone who believe in Jesus Christ is invited to partake in Holy Communion on the first Sunday of the month. We also have Communion on Easter and Christmas Eve.

Is there a Sunday School Hour?

There is an adult Sunday School Class that meets in person from 8:30-9:15am before worship. We have several small group Bible studies and fellowship groups that meet during the week, both in-person and online. Contact Cindy Svec, cindys@heritageumc.org if you would like a full list of our current Bible studies and small groups.

Children’s Sunday School happens during worship. See more about Children’s Sunday school in the “What is available for children” section on this page.

Youth 6th grade – 12th grade have Youth Group weekly on Sundays from 7:00-8:30pm in room 103. For information about Youth classes and activities, contact Deann Baiza, youth@heritageumc.org

Where can I go if I have other questions?

We would love to answer any questions you may have about Heritage. On Sunday mornings, you are welcome to find an usher or ask Dawn Beck, our Director of Worship Engagement if you have questions or need directions to the sanctuary. If you would like to visit us during the week, or have questions before you come, call the church office, or email Dawn, dawnb@heritageumc.org
