Developing a safe return to in-person worship

Many of you have asked when we’ll be having in person worship again.  The health and well-being of our congregation, staff and community is our top priority.  As we move forward with reopening and resuming operations and gatherings, we are studying the guidelines and requirements outlined by the state, county and federal governments, as well as the conference.  We are using these guidelines to determine the best practices, protocols and timing that we believe are necessary to prevent the spread of disease in our unique setting.  As we do this, we are seeking your input.  Please help us by completing a short survey. Click on the link below to provide your answers.  We appreciate your support in this project.

Re: Change, Opportunities, and Future Challenges

Approximately thirty (30) years ago, Thelma Hess, Betty and Everett Knapp, and I came to Heritage United Methodist Church. Rev. Tom Brady was pastor. We were coming from Trinity United Methodist Church. My mother questioned my sanity for coming this far to Johnson County from Wyandotte County.

Well, Guess what. These years at Heritage have been more than rewarding, and I have met and worked with so many of you that I will NEVER forgot this part of my journey. We, as a congregation, have been through many transitional changes, both as a local church and a major denomination. However, through all of it, we have persevered and survived. This, to me, speaks to the leadership and commitment we have demonstrated by participating in transforming lives for Jesus Christ.

I want to thank Rev. Maria Campbell for agreeing to come to us and serve as our pastor. I truly believe that the congregation of Heritage, under her leadership, has turned the corner, and now has the potential of being the church God wants us to be.

I want to thank the staff for all that they have done and continue to do so. I will say again, publicly and openly, that the staff that we have reminds me of the staff that I had at Kansas City Kansas Community College. They are dedicated, loyal, efficient, professional, and untiring. I do not say this lightly. They are definitely keepers.

But, I want to especially thank Greg Lasser, our Lay Leader. He has been along side of me since I came to Heritage, especially these last three years that I have been SPRC chair. He has kept me focused and served as a stabling force when I had the urge to be direct. [That is an inside joke]

My oldest niece, Camille, her husband, and two boys have offered me the opportunity to move to Houston, and I have accepted. I do request one thing from Rev. Campbell and the congregation of Heritage, however. Please reserve my seat on the back row on the left for me, in case Houston is not that exciting!!

I thank each of you and all of you, and I leave you with one of my favorite verses. “Be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day and hiving done all to stand. Stand, therefore, having your loins girt about with truth… the breastplate of righteousness…your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace, above all, taking the shield of faith… take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Shalom!” Ephesians 6:10-17
