UMCOR Sunday!

We will be collecting a special offering for UMCOR this Sunday, March 31. UMCOR offers immediate assistance in the wake of disasters and helps support ongoing ministries of food, shelter, health and peace.

How do we best help those in need!

For those of you who were in attendance last Sunday at the 9 am service, you were faced with an unusual situation.  A visitor walked into worship looking for assistance and we all felt the need to immediately help her. She tugged at our heartstrings, but sometimes handing someone cash is not the best or safest way.

As a church family, we collect money on communion Sunday’s for our Emergency Fund.  This fund is there for just this reason.  We have policies and procedures in place to use this fund and our resources at the House of Hope.  As a church we do not give cash directly to an individual, we pay directly to a vendor for a specific need. All or most agencies in the area providing support have similar procedures and expectations before any service/need is provided to an individual.

Individuals seeking assistance must complete paperwork and provide us with basic contact information.  They are also expected to set up an appointment with the pastor during office hours to assess their need.

This visitor was not willing to accommodate either request nor was she willing to take a bag of food or a hygiene kit  A visit with the pastor generally does not happen on a Sunday morning and we appreciate Pastor Linda taking time to visit briefly with her between services.

We know you were willing to give her help with cash on Sunday. However, we would prefer not to provide individuals with cash handouts at Heritage on a Sunday morning or anytime for the safety of the staff and our congregants. Should you find the desire to help, contributions to the Emergency Fund can be given at anytime and there are volunteer shifts available for the House of Hope on Thursdays.

Have a love for music, but can’t commit to choir all year long? We are looking for anyone who would like to be a part of a choir (choral, bells, instrumental) for a short period of time. Join rehearsals during Lent and

help bring music to our Easter services!

Contact the church office for more information.
